Tonight I was out with my dear friend and favorite OB. As usual we had a little medical chit chat. I asked her why my feet grew during my pregnancy. She said she has not heard of this freakish phenom. This was doubly bothersome because a few months ago when I asked my Ortho friend he too had not heard of the expanding pregnant foot. So my question to you, my blogging friends: Did your feet grow during pregnancy?

I was an 8 1/2- 9 before I had Lauren and now I am an 9-9 1/2. I have heard this from other people as well!! I thought it was normal.
I had a friend who went up a 1/2 size each child.
Absolutley! My feet are atleast 1/2 size bigger and I have had to get rid of almost all of my pre-preganancy shoes...so heartbreaking, but worth it!
Mine grew and then came back down, but I heard it was normal, as well.
Are you kidding me??!
I can't believe they have never heard of this. Have they had a baby? I can't think of a single pregnant woman who's feet haven't grown during their pregnancy. Mine went up a whole size, but have seemed to settle at about a 1/2 size bigger. I still haven't gotten rid of all of my shoes that don't fit anymore...I'm still hoping.
Anyway, its my understanding that its the hormone relaxin (the one that allows your pubic symphesis to separate) that also causes the ligaments in your feet to loosen and therefore your feet kind of spread (which I am guessing is helped along by the added weight they are bearing). Anyway, that's what I thought.
Yeah, I heard that it's because your arches relax and get lower, which makes your feet longer. Mine have gone up about a 1/2 size over the course of 2 pregnancies. I guess this is just one of those things you learn by experiencing pregnancy, not just studying it!
You are definitely not alone in this. My feet also grew a half size, but with my first pregnancy only. However, I'm sure your feet started out a lot smaller than mine. I now wear a size 10!
Mine, too. I was 5.5 when I got married and after 4 kids they were 6.5 where they have stayed for years!
Bye the way......those are really cute shoes on the post!
Mine grew 1/2 size and I gave away some of my shoes, but then they went back down. Oh well, it was time for new shoes anyway.
yes! mine got wider, not longer. and it happened both times so that now I actually have to buy a different size!
